Australia Assists With Fiji Red Cross Relief Efforts

February 15, 2007

The Government of Australia will contribute F$58,000 to the Fiji Red Cross Society to assist with replenishing its stocks of relief supplies.

The funds will be used to assist Fiji Red Cross supply tarpaulins, cooking sets, blankets, water containers and humanitarian packs containing essential items and clothing to people affected by the recent floods.

The Society has severely depleted its stock of supplies over the past week while providing relief to flood-affected communities in Labasa, Savusavu and now in Western Viti Levu.

Australia and Fiji Red Cross have a long tradition of partnership in Fiji. They have worked together to assist Fiji families in times of natural disaster, including through Cyclone Ami in 2003 and the floods of 2004.
